New international partnership: FeMale ego nominated charity of the year
We’re delighted to announce we have been chosen as charity of the year by FeMale ego Hair and Beauty.
This is a UK based hair and beauty Salon in Kingston-upon-Hull. They have nominated Kids League Kenya to be their fundraising focus in 2023.
Meet our newest partners
Donna has been in business in Hull for over 40 years. Alongside her daughter Dionne as salon owners, they have created a hub of the community in Hessle, Hull.
This is where innovative techniques in hair and beauty blend seamlessly with traditional values of customer service, creating a fantastic experience and regular clients.
At first glance you may not see the alignment of hair and beauty with education in Kenya, but when you look deeper there’s fantastic connection that makes for a fantastic partnership.
A partnership of shared values
When you visit the FeMale ego Facebook page , beyond the amazing creations, you will see that FeMale ego often has hair donations: kind clients choosing the salon as the place to have their hair cut ready for donations to worthy causes. This energy around generosity and kindness, a real spirit of giving back, is at the heart of FeMale ego.
Donna and Dionne also have been mentoring apprentices and juniors for many years. They understand the importance of education for their team’s development, and how giving young people a chance to work hard is essential.
Donna a self-confessed ‘hair geek’, channelling this appetite for learning into new techniques as well as education of others. She works with an external company as an educator, traveling to help others improve their skills.

Compassion and a passion for education – Kids League Kenya and FeMale ego are the perfect match.

Stars aligned
When on a recent trip to Kenya to see family, Donna and Dionne were offered to include a visit to the schools as part of their holiday, and both leapt at the chance.
They joined our our Tuk Tuk tour of Kongowea in November 2022, exploring the schools of our community in Kongowea, meeting the teachers and students, and the best way to describe it is they both fell in love.
Donna left the visit with renewed purpose:
“I just feel we have to do something to help these beautiful children. Having met the Kids League Kenya team I have absolute confidence in what they are doing, and I trust them.
Education is a powerful tool to help people and this charity really is changing lives.”
Ambitions for 2023 (and beyond)
Donna and Dionne have become fantastic UK ambassadors for our charity in Mombasa. They are spreading the word of Kids League Kenya to their clients and community. This amplification of our work is absolutely fantastic, and we’re so grateful.
If that wasn’t enough, already many clients of the salon have started to make donations , and some have joined our Kids League Kenya Hull Whatsapp group. This is where members are closer to the action as the team in Mombasa share behind the scenes updates.
FeMale ego has already made an impact, helping to send two students to secondary school.
These are bright students that otherwise would not have been able to afford a uniform or basics (such as female hygiene products and a bucket to wash their clothes) to get to school, despite having their scholarship covering their fees. Every donation makes a difference.
We’re excited for the future.
Thank you to Donna, Dionne and the whole FeMale Ego team, and your clients and community.
You are trying changing lives in our community all the way in Kongowea, Mombasa.
Asante sana.
