Who is Kids League Kenya?

A small Kenyan based charity that funds the secondary education of children.

Founded 25 years ago, thousands of children have been supported to a new future.

Our tight knit team is based in an office at the back of our charity shop in Mombasa, enabling us to be close to the communities we support.

Our trustees are all Mombasa based, working with a UK team of volunteers and network of supportive organisations.

Our goals

– To provide scholarships for primary leavers, to secondary education and through to tertiary education.

– To create local initiatives to generate income to support our programmes.

Registered name: The Kids League Charitable Trust

Registered number: B13 631/1150 1637

Our story

We have been supporting the education of children in Kenya for over 20 years.

We were founded as ACTS (Assist a Child To School) in 1998, after starting to support the education of children informally in 1993.

We have merged with Kids League – an international charity formed in 2001 that worked predominantly in neighbouring Uganda.

Since 2017 this combined energy has enabled us to honour our commitments to our students and opened up new opportunities for our community.

Find out more about our journey and name change in a future blog. Coming soon.

Meet our team

Julie

Our administrator who interacts on a daily basis with students, parents and schools to ensure that the office runs smoothly.

Offering counselling, encouragement and moral support, she plays an important role in our student’s well-being and success to achieve their full potential.

Julie is a strong counsellor and being an Alumni student of our sponsorship herself, she has empathy with the children and ensures that any problems students may be experiencing or that is affecting their education, are discussed and resolved, wherever possible.

From the Kids League Kenya Trustees

“We would like to let you know how wonderful it is to be part of an organisation that is making a change to many lives, one student at a time.

We face a difficult task as there are many poor families in Kenya who are struggling daily to make ends meet, to look after their families and to send their children to school.

Therefore we would like to express our gratitude to our many sponsors around the world who make it possible for us to keep running our charity and we hope to welcome many more sponsors into our family, so we can  accomplish more in the years to come with your help and generous support.”

To provide scholarships for secondary and tertiary students in disadvantaged communities.

We help them realise their life goals potential, becoming employable, financially independent, thinking and skilled adults, capable of contributing to their family’s well-being and Kenya’s future.

To provide financial aid and infrastructure needed for individuals to complete their academic studies.

We focus on individuals from disadvantaged communities whose education is crucial for supporting their families. Kids League Kenya ensure scholars are provided for adequately to enable their studies and become employable individuals.

Kids League Kenya subscribes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals target 4.

This states ‘Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.’

A foundational belief for Kids League Kenya is born from the fact that enduring change is only possible when communities are able to take charge and find their own solutions for development.

This begins with the recognition of all the resources in their midst, leverage on the resources from different actors to promote long-term development results.

Our philosophy

Communities will realise improved quality of lives the recognition and investment in their own resources.
Communities have the ability to mitigate, adapt to and recover from shocks and stresses in a manner that reduces chronic vulnerability.
For communities to benefit from the inclusion of many grassroots, national and international actors who have the capacity to promote sustainable development.
