KLK Day 2025 – Finding the right path for you!
On 13th August 2025, we held KLK Day at Khadija Primary School, Hall. Students turned out in great numbers, accompanied by their proud parents. It was an honour to be joined by our trustees, teachers from partner primary schools in the Kongowea area, a representative from the Education Office, and the Chief of Kongowea, Madam Yasmin.
Our theme this year
This year’s theme, “Finding the Right Path for You”, guided discussions on career development, discipline, and responsibility.
One student, Joseph, put it perfectly: “KLK has helped me believe in myself and see a future I never thought possible.”
Stories That Moved Us
Our first speaker was Henry, now an alumnus of KLK. Henry shared his inspiring journey, reminding students of the importance of career guidance. Having benefited from the KLK scholarship, he emphasised working hard in STEM subjects, which often shape career opportunities. Henry graduated with a BSc in Biochemistry and is now employed at a company in Mombasa.
Next came Moniva, a student at Embu University, who painted a real picture of campus life: the challenges, the opportunities, and the resilience it takes to succeed. Her honesty struck a chord with those preparing to step into university later this year.
We also heard from Joyce, a confident Form Three student, who reminded us that success is not just about grades but also about integrity, respect, and responsibility.
Joseph Mulatya gave a heartfelt testimony of how KLK’s support in covering his school fees allowed him to excel and gain admission to university. He is now pursuing a Bachelor of Education (Science).
Performances That Spoke to the Heart
The stage wasn’t only for speeches. Students showcased their creativity with a short play, uplifting songs, and a moving poem of gratitude to KLK.
Guidance from Parents, Teachers, and Leaders
A parent representative, Mamake Feiswal, encouraged the students to make the most of the scholarship and to work hard to achieve their goals.
Madam Mwanakombo (a teacher at Kongowea Primary School) and Madam Lucy (a teacher at Khadija Primary School) encouraged students to take their education seriously, stressing its power to transform their future.
A Word from the Trustees
Our trustees shared their vision for expanding opportunities for students who may not have qualified for university. Vicki introduced new vocational training options in fields such as plumbing, electrical installation, carpentry, hospitality and catering, and hairdressing. These courses aim to equip young people with practical skills that can transform their lives and communities.
An further emphasised the importance of academic performance and reminded parents of their responsibility in supporting their children’s education.
Distinguished Guests
We were deeply honoured by the presence of Madam Khadija from the Education Office and our ever-supportive Chief of Kongowea, Madam Yasmin, who crowned the day with her encouragement and blessings.
Prize Giving
Hard work never goes unrewarded. Certificates were presented to secondary students who have excelled academically, shown outstanding discipline, and demonstrated commitment through volunteering at our 2nd ACT Shop.
A special highlight was the generosity of our alumni, who came together to contribute and purchase backpacks for the new students joining campus this year. Their support not only celebrated the achievements of our learners but also reminded us of the strong and caring KLK family that continues to give back.
Closing the Day
The day ended with a delicious pilau lunch, enjoyed by students, parents, and guests alike. Afterwards, everyone departed at their own leisure.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who attended, with special appreciation to the Education Officer and to Madam Chief for her unwavering dedication and support whenever we have needed her assistance.
