We embarked on a careful and compassionate selection journey that spanned several weeks, involving applications, interviews, home visits, and final assessments. This blog captures that journey.

The Beginning: Applications and First Interviews

In December 2025, we officially began the process of selecting new students for sponsorship. We were encouraged and humbled by the large number of applications received, with over 90 applications submitted.

This year, our focus was on students transitioning into Grade 10, marking the start of Senior Secondary School under Kenya’s new education system. The first stage involved interviews with both students and their parents, allowing us to better understand academic journeys, family circumstances, and future aspirations.

Home Visits

In early January 2026, our office staff conducted home visits to better understand the living conditions of our applicants and their families.

Despite having many homes to visit, we successfully completed all the visits and were warmly welcomed by families who openly shared their stories, challenges, hopes, and dreams. These moments reinforced our commitment to ensuring that support reaches those who need it most.

Final Interviews

Following the home visits, we held the final round of interviews at our office. Our trustee met one-on-one with both parents and students, creating space for honest conversations and deeper understanding. These meetings allowed us to reflect carefully before making final decisions, ensuring fairness, transparency, and alignment with our mission.

Welcoming the Class of 2026

Later in January 2026, we were delighted to officially welcome our 2026 sponsored students into the Kids League Kenya programme. We were able to support 36 students, due to budget limitations, though we would have loved to take in more with additional sponsorship. Shortly after, students and their parents visited our office to collect school fee bank slips as they prepared to report to their new schools.

Added Extra Support

This year, many parents faced challenges in purchasing additional items required before students could report to school. These items included school uniforms, boxes, mattresses, books, pens, bed sheets, blankets, and transport fare to school, among others, especially for students joining boarding schools.

While Kids League Kenya usually covers only the school fees as indicated in the fee structure, this year we extended additional support to several students whose parents could not afford these essential items or transport costs. Without this support, some students would have been unable to report to school despite their fees having already been paid.
