KLK Day 2026: Learn. Lead. Inspire.

On 13th August 2026, the KLK family came together at Khadija Primary School Hall for a special day of celebration, reflection and inspiration.

KLK Day 2026, held under the theme “Learn. Lead. Inspire.”, brought together students, parents, teachers, trustees, alumni, sponsors, community leaders and special guests.

The day was more than a celebration of academic achievement. It was an opportunity to remind our students that their journey is shaped not only by what they learn in the classroom but also by the choices they make, the character they develop, the challenges they overcome and the example they set for others.

With 181 people attending, the gathering was a powerful reflection of the growing KLK community.

When a scholarship becomes a journey

For KLK, the most rewarding part of an event like this is seeing how far some of our former students have come.

One of the special moments of the day was seeing former Miss Nakuru, a former KLK beneficiary and proud alumna, return to KLK, this time not as a student, but as our Master of Ceremonies.

From left is Faith, Former Miss Nakuru – Alumna and Vivian, Current Miss Mombasa – Invited Guest

Her journey is a reminder of what happens when a young person is given an opportunity and chooses to make the most of it.

Having benefited from KLK and gone on to complete her studies at Egerton University, she returned to encourage the very students who are now walking a path similar to the one she once travelled.

And she was not alone in bringing inspiration to the stage.

We were also honoured to welcome Miss Mombasa, whose visit added another dimension to the day’s message about pursuing both education and personal passions.

She encouraged our students to pursue not only their careers but also their talents and passions. As a teacher by profession, a model, and soon-to-be an air hostess, she represented the many possibilities that can emerge when education, ambition and talent come together.

“Education Changes Lives”

One of the memorable performances was the poem “Education Changes Lives.”

For an organisation whose motto is Education Changes Lives, hearing those words spoken by the young people at the centre of our work made the message particularly meaningful.

Education is often measured through grades, certificates and qualifications. But at KLK, we see it as something much bigger.

It can mean a child gaining confidence.
A student discovering a talent.
A young person beginning to believe in their future.
A university graduate returning to inspire those coming behind them.
And ultimately, an opportunity to change the direction of a life.

The choices we make

Perhaps one of the most thought-provoking performances of the day was the students’ short play, “The Choice We Make.”

Through drama, the students explored a reality that every young person eventually faces: the choices we make have consequences.

The play provided an opportunity to reflect on discipline, friendships, priorities, education and the decisions young people make while growing up.

Its message fitted perfectly with the wider theme of the day.
We can give students opportunities.
We can provide education.
We can offer encouragement and support.
But each young person must ultimately make choices about what they do with those opportunities.

A good future does not happen by accident. It is built through many small choices.

Beyond marks: building character

This was also a recurring message throughout KLK Day.

Our students heard about self-discipline, hard work, communication, resilience and overcoming challenges.

And perhaps most importantly, they were reminded that academic success alone does not define a successful young person.

Madam Yasmin, the Kongowea Area Chief, spoke about the importance of character and responsible choices, reminding students that success is not simply about academic achievement.

Her message was particularly relevant after the students’ performance of The Choice We Make.

Success is not only about what you achieve but also about the person you become.

Growing up is not always easy

We were especially honoured to have Dr. Evelyne Datche, Director of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) Mombasa Campus, speak to our young people.

Her session addressed some of the realities young people encounter as they move from childhood into adulthood.

The transition is exciting, but it can also bring uncertainty, conflicts, difficult relationships, pressure and important decisions.

For students standing at different points in their education journey, this was an important reminder that growing up is not simply about getting older. It is about learning how to understand yourself, deal with challenges and take responsibility for your choices.

Students found their voices

KLK Day also gave students something that cannot always be measured on a report card: a platform to be heard.

Students delivered testimonies, speeches and poems. They sang, danced and acted.

There were messages on communication, self-discipline and hard work, as well as reflections on overcoming challenges and remaining resilient.

Then came the music and dance performances, including “Fight Song”, bringing energy and celebration to the hall.

Learning from those who came before

One of the strengths of KLK Day is the opportunity for current students to meet people who have already walked parts of the journey they are beginning.

Alumni were once sitting where today’s students were sitting.

Dr. Kevin is one of our proud alumni and a former KLK beneficiary. Kids League Kenya supported him throughout his education, and through hard work, determination, and a passion for medicine, he went on to pursue a career in the medical field.

Today, Dr. Kevin is a qualified doctor serving in Kilifi County.

His presence at KLK Day was truly special and a great encouragement to the students we currently support. His journey is a powerful reminder that with the right support, determination, and commitment to education, young people can achieve their dreams.

Celebrating achievement

The day also gave us an opportunity to recognise students for their achievements and efforts. Certificates were awarded to students who demonstrated excellence in different areas, including academic performance, discipline, volunteering and overall outstanding achievement.

Our alumni also came together to support the students who are joining university this year. They generously contributed towards the purchase of laptop bags, which were presented to the students as they begin this exciting new chapter of their education.

Prize giving is not simply about handing out awards. It is about saying to a young person:

We see your effort. Keep going.

For students preparing to move into university and for those continuing through secondary school, recognition can provide an important boost of confidence.

It tells them that their hard work matters and that the KLK community is proud of their progress.

A Meal Shared Together

We ended the day by sharing a meal together, giving students, parents, alumni, trustees, staff and guests time to relax, interact and catch up.

A community behind every student

Looking around the hall, it was clear that a student’s journey is never a journey taken alone.

Parents were there.
Teachers were there.
Trustees were there.
Alumni were there.
Sponsors, community leaders and invited guests were there.
And, most importantly, the students were there.

Each person plays a different role, but together they form the support system that helps young people move forward.

That is what makes KLK Day special. It is not simply an event organised for students. It is an event built around them.

Learn. Lead. Inspire.

As the day came to a close, the theme Learn. Lead. Inspire. felt particularly appropriate.

Learn

Learn from teachers. Learn from parents. Learn from those who have gone before you. And learn from your own experiences.

Lead

Take responsibility for your education, your character and your decisions. Leadership does not begin when you get a title, it begins when you take responsibility.

Inspire

Use what you learn and who you become to encourage someone else.

Our former students are already demonstrating this. Miss Nakuru’s return to KLK as our MC is one example of that journey coming full circle.

We would like to sincerely thank our students, parents, teachers, Trustees, alumni, sponsors, staff, community leaders and every guest who took the time to be part of KLK Day 2026.

Your presence made the day special.

And to our students, keep learning, keep leading and keep inspiring.

Because at Kids League Kenya, we continue to believe that Education Changes Lives. 💙

2026 University Placements: A New Chapter Begins.

There are few moments more rewarding than seeing years of hard work come to fruition. After completing their KCSE examinations, our students have eagerly awaited their university placements, and we are delighted to celebrate this important milestone with them.

In 2025, 15 students under our sponsorship programme sat for their KCSE examinations after four years of dedication and commitment. We are proud to share that 11 of these students attained a C+ and above, qualifying for direct entry into university through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).

This year’s placements have given us even more reason to celebrate. The KUCCPS placement process can sometimes be unpredictable, with students occasionally being placed in courses they did not apply for. We recognise that success takes many different paths, and we are committed to supporting every student in pursuing an education that aligns with their goals and aspirations.

As our university-bound students prepare to report to their respective institutions, we are also assisting them with their Higher Education Fund (HEF) and HELB applications to help ensure they have the financial support they need to begin their studies.

Your generosity has enabled these students to reach this important milestone, and your continued support will help them take the next steps towards fulfilling their dreams.

We congratulate all 15 of our 2025 KCSE candidates and wish them every success as they embark on this exciting new chapter. We look forward to following their journeys and celebrating many more achievements in the years ahead.

Alumni Spotlight – Fred Mwangangi

My name is Fred Mwangangi James, and I have been a proud beneficiary of Kids League Kenya since my childhood in 2005. Growing up in a humble background with many daily struggles, I thank God that my education journey was never hindered. Kids League was always there, ensuring that every need was taken care of.

I performed well in my KCPE exams and was admitted to Shimo La Tewa High School for my secondary education. Because school fees were no longer a challenge, I was able to fully focus on my studies. Although life at home remained difficult, my strong and supportive parents encouraged me to keep going and inspired me to work even harder. In 2015, I successfully completed my KCSE exams.

In 2016, I joined Kisii University to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Purchasing and Supply Chain Management. Life at campus was tough, but Kids League continued to support me by providing pocket money every semester. This support allowed me to concentrate on my studies, and in September 2021, I graduated with Second Class Honours (Upper Division).

After graduation, I spent some time seeking job opportunities. In June 2024, Kids League once again came through for me by providing an internship opportunity in partnership with OCF, which led to my placement at Unity Homes in the Supply Chain Department. Through hard work and God’s grace, I was retained as an employee, and I am still working there to date.

I am not yet where I want to be, but I believe in hard work and perseverance. Challenges will always be there, but they shape us and help us grow.

I sincerely thank Kids League Kenya for standing with me and many other young beneficiaries. May God continue to bless this organisation. Special thanks to Madam Julie Nderitu, who has been my guide and motivator. Her words “keep pushing and never stop praying” have inspired me to stay strong and focused.

Thank you, Kids League Kenya, for making me who I am today.

The Next Step: Choosing a Path

With the KUCCPS portal now open, our students are stepping into one of the most important phases of their academic journey, selecting courses and applying for university placement.

This stage brings both excitement and anxiety. Many students are carefully considering their career paths, balancing their passions with their grades and available opportunities. Questions like “Will I get the course I want?”, “Which university is the best fit?” and “Am I making the right choice?” are common during this time.

At Kids League Kenya, we are supporting them through this process, offering guidance, encouragement, and reassurance as they make these life-shaping decisions.

Dreams Taking Shape

Our graduates have diverse and inspiring ambitions. Some dream of becoming engineers, accountants, and software developers, while others are exploring careers in research, business, and beyond.

This is a crucial moment where dreams begin to take clearer shape. With the right guidance and opportunities, these aspirations can turn into meaningful careers that not only transform their own lives but also impact their communities.

Walking the Journey Together

Transitioning from secondary school to university is a big step, and no student should have to navigate it alone. Beyond celebrating their results, we remain committed to supporting our students as they move forward.

To our 2025 graduates, congratulations once again. You have made us incredibly proud. As you make your applications and await your placements, remember that this is just the beginning of a greater journey.

We wish you clarity in your choices, confidence in your abilities, and success in all that lies ahead. The future is yours to shape and we are honoured to be part of your story.

New Students Selection 2026

We embarked on a careful and compassionate selection journey that spanned several weeks, involving applications, interviews, home visits, and final assessments. This blog captures that journey.

The Beginning: Applications and First Interviews

In December 2025, we officially began the process of selecting new students for sponsorship. We were encouraged and humbled by the large number of applications received, with over 90 applications submitted.

This year, our focus was on students transitioning into Grade 10, marking the start of Senior Secondary School under Kenya’s new education system. The first stage involved interviews with both students and their parents, allowing us to better understand academic journeys, family circumstances, and future aspirations.

Home Visits

In early January 2026, our office staff conducted home visits to better understand the living conditions of our applicants and their families.

Despite having many homes to visit, we successfully completed all the visits and were warmly welcomed by families who openly shared their stories, challenges, hopes, and dreams. These moments reinforced our commitment to ensuring that support reaches those who need it most.

Final Interviews

Following the home visits, we held the final round of interviews at our office. Our trustee met one-on-one with both parents and students, creating space for honest conversations and deeper understanding. These meetings allowed us to reflect carefully before making final decisions, ensuring fairness, transparency, and alignment with our mission.

Welcoming the Class of 2026

Later in January 2026, we were delighted to officially welcome our 2026 sponsored students into the Kids League Kenya programme. We were able to support 36 students, due to budget limitations, though we would have loved to take in more with additional sponsorship. Shortly after, students and their parents visited our office to collect school fee bank slips as they prepared to report to their new schools.

Added Extra Support

This year, many parents faced challenges in purchasing additional items required before students could report to school. These items included school uniforms, boxes, mattresses, books, pens, bed sheets, blankets, and transport fare to school, among others, especially for students joining boarding schools.

While Kids League Kenya usually covers only the school fees as indicated in the fee structure, this year we extended additional support to several students whose parents could not afford these essential items or transport costs. Without this support, some students would have been unable to report to school despite their fees having already been paid.

KLK Day 2025 – Finding the right path for you!

On 13th August 2025, we held KLK Day at Khadija Primary School, Hall. Students turned out in great numbers, accompanied by their proud parents. It was an honour to be joined by our trustees, teachers from partner primary schools in the Kongowea area, a representative from the Education Office, and the Chief of Kongowea, Madam Yasmin.

Our theme this year
This year’s theme, “Finding the Right Path for You”, guided discussions on career development, discipline, and responsibility.

One student, Joseph, put it perfectly: “KLK has helped me believe in myself and see a future I never thought possible.”

Stories That Moved Us
Our first speaker was Henry, now an alumnus of KLK. Henry shared his inspiring journey, reminding students of the importance of career guidance. Having benefited from the KLK scholarship, he emphasised working hard in STEM subjects, which often shape career opportunities. Henry graduated with a BSc in Biochemistry and is now employed at a company in Mombasa.

Next came Moniva, a student at Embu University, who painted a real picture of campus life: the challenges, the opportunities, and the resilience it takes to succeed. Her honesty struck a chord with those preparing to step into university later this year.

We also heard from Joyce, a confident Form Three student, who reminded us that success is not just about grades but also about integrity, respect, and responsibility.

Joseph Mulatya gave a heartfelt testimony of how KLK’s support in covering his school fees allowed him to excel and gain admission to university. He is now pursuing a Bachelor of Education (Science).

Performances That Spoke to the Heart

The stage wasn’t only for speeches. Students showcased their creativity with a short play, uplifting songs, and a moving poem of gratitude to KLK.

Guidance from Parents, Teachers, and Leaders

A parent representative, Mamake Feiswal, encouraged the students to make the most of the scholarship and to work hard to achieve their goals.

Madam Mwanakombo (a teacher at Kongowea Primary School) and Madam Lucy (a teacher at Khadija Primary School) encouraged students to take their education seriously, stressing its power to transform their future.

A Word from the Trustees

Our trustees shared their vision for expanding opportunities for students who may not have qualified for university. Vicki introduced new vocational training options in fields such as plumbing, electrical installation, carpentry, hospitality and catering, and hairdressing. These courses aim to equip young people with practical skills that can transform their lives and communities.

An further emphasised the importance of academic performance and reminded parents of their responsibility in supporting their children’s education.

Distinguished Guests

We were deeply honoured by the presence of Madam Khadija from the Education Office and our ever-supportive Chief of Kongowea, Madam Yasmin, who crowned the day with her encouragement and blessings.

Prize Giving

Hard work never goes unrewarded. Certificates were presented to secondary students who have excelled academically, shown outstanding discipline, and demonstrated commitment through volunteering at our 2nd ACT Shop.

A special highlight was the generosity of our alumni, who came together to contribute and purchase backpacks for the new students joining campus this year. Their support not only celebrated the achievements of our learners but also reminded us of the strong and caring KLK family that continues to give back.

Closing the Day

The day ended with a delicious pilau lunch, enjoyed by students, parents, and guests alike. Afterwards, everyone departed at their own leisure.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who attended, with special appreciation to the Education Officer and to Madam Chief for her unwavering dedication and support whenever we have needed her assistance.

Student Spotlight: Meet Kevin – From Dreams to a Future in Science and Service

Every scholarship tells a story. Behind the numbers and funding reports are real children with real dreams and real challenges. At Kids League Kenya, we’re proud to walk alongside students as they rise above difficult circumstances to create bright futures. Today, we shine a light on Kevin Amwoyi, whose inspiring journey is a true example of how perseverance and opportunity can change a life.

A Humble Beginning
Kevin completed his primary education at Kongowea Primary School in 2010, earning the title of top student in his class. But despite his excellent performance, joining high school was a challenge. Like many families in his community, Kevin’s parents couldn’t afford the cost of secondary education and his dreams hung in the balance.

A Turning Point
Thankfully, hope arrived in the form of his headmaster, who recognised Kevin’s potential and referred him to Kids League Kenya (formerly ACTS). Through our scholarship programme, Kevin joined Mazeras High School, where he continued to excel.

“Thanks to Kids League Kenya (former ACTS), I joined Mazeras High School and continued my academic journey. At Mazeras, I stayed focused and determined, finishing as the second-best student in my KCSE class of 2014 missing the top spot by just one point!”

This outstanding performance earned Kevin a place at the University of Nairobi, where he began a BSc. in Physical Sciences, later transferring to BSc. Biochemistry at the School of Health Sciences.

“With support from HELB and Kids League Kenya, I completed my studies and graduated in 2020 with a Second-Class Honours Upper Division in Biochemistry.”

Academic and Personal Growth
Kevin’s career began as a volunteer data collector. His hard work and dedication helped him secure an administrative internship at a local NGO focused on transforming lives. Today, he serves in a dual role as both Administrative Officer and Research Assistant at the same organisation.

“Looking back, I am deeply thankful for the support that made my education possible. Kids League Kenya played a key role in shaping my future. I hope my story inspires others to persevere, no matter what obstacles they face.”
Kevin’s journey is a story of talent and opportunity. From a top-performing primary student to a university graduate and now a changemaker in his community, Kevin shows us what’s possible when students are given the chance to succeed.

How can you help?
Once our students graduate from education in their chosen field, they need to find their next opportunity. As these highly motivated individuals look for a career to enable them to be self-sufficient and often support their family members as well.

At Kids League Kenya we try to support our students in their next step. Without work experience or a chance from companies, our alumni can find it difficult to secure a role. Please get in touch if your business may be able to collaborate with us – fresh talent for you, opportunities for our students.
