2026 University Placements: A New Chapter Begins.

There are few moments more rewarding than seeing years of hard work come to fruition. After completing their KCSE examinations, our students have eagerly awaited their university placements, and we are delighted to celebrate this important milestone with them.

In 2025, 15 students under our sponsorship programme sat for their KCSE examinations after four years of dedication and commitment. We are proud to share that 11 of these students attained a C+ and above, qualifying for direct entry into university through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).

This year’s placements have given us even more reason to celebrate. The KUCCPS placement process can sometimes be unpredictable, with students occasionally being placed in courses they did not apply for. We are therefore especially pleased that all 11 of our university-bound students were successfully placed in the courses they had applied for, allowing them to pursue the careers they have been working towards.

As our university-bound students prepare to report to their respective institutions, we are also assisting them with their Higher Education Fund (HEF) and HELB applications to help ensure they have the financial support they need to begin their studies.

David’s Story – Our First, First-Class Honours Degree!

At Kids League Kenya, nothing fills our hearts more than seeing our students soar! 💫 Today, we’re bursting with pride as we celebrate one of our very own, David Nzai, who has just graduated with First Class Honours in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Machakos University.

David’s journey is one for the books a story of a bright, disciplined, and determined young man who turned challenges into stepping stones. His hard work, focus, and humble spirit have truly made him a first-class example of what Kids League Kenya is all about!

He shared the following heartfelt message with us:

“Dear Kids League Kenya family,

I wish to express my deepest and sincere appreciation to Kids League Kenya for your unwavering support and generosity throughout my academic journey since 2015, when I joined Form One at Khamis High School. At a time when I had lost hope of joining high school, you came into my life and your sponsorship restored my dreams and gave me the opportunity to pursue education with dignity and purpose. For this, I will forever be grateful.

Your continued support through university stipend ensured that I studied comfortably without financial worries, allowing me to fully focus on my academics. I cannot forget your annual mentorship programmes, which were well organised and served as a great source of inspiration and personal growth, shaping my character and preparing me for life beyond the classroom.

I would like to extend special thanks to Madam Julie for her exceptional moral support, tireless follow-up, and dedication in ensuring that my school fees and stipends were always paid on time. Student Spotlight: Janipher’s passion for technology in her own words

Janipher is a student that was identified as a talent and we have been supporting her for a number of years, through her secondary school success and on to tertiary education. She has focussed on business information and technology and has excelled.

Janipher has been self-motivated and ambitious, securing a number of placements and roles in the medical field. She has chosen to focus on her personal development and continues to impress.

“Kids League Kenya has been a blessing in my life since secondary school and has continued to be so throughout my university education.

It has played a very vital role not only financially but also mentally, through the continuous encouragement that we get from the organization’s staff.”

Attending school and continuous learning

“With the help of Kids League Kenya, I was able to enroll in Technical University of Kenya and pursue a business information technology degree.

In a world where technology is always developing, I’m continuing to advance my education in order to eventually become a certified data analyst.

I was able to acquire technical communication and management abilities while I was studying, and these talents will have a huge impact on the organizations that I will work with.”

Starting off volunteering

“I have worked in a variety of organizations, gaining valuable experience that I am very proud of.

I volunteered for the National Hospital Insurance Fund for eight months. I was able to gain experience in a real-world work environment while working at NHIF. I took on a variety of tasks at the NHIF Mtwapa satellite:
• Installation of workstation
• Updating members accounts
• Data and records management
• Printing and dispatching of NHIF cards.
• Capturing, updating and processing of member amendment details
• Advising member on impatient and outpatient cover
• Verifying and authorizing claims

Success is a mind set

“As a young lady with a keen interest in the information technology sector, I had the opportunity to interact with Laser Infrastructure and Technology Solutions (LITES) and infrastructure and ICT solutions and a subsidiary of CPF Group for a month. The theme was ‘Digitization and Beyond.’

I learned skills in Archival and Information Management solutions – I was able to understand all stages of arch project from analyzing documents filing and storing them physically/electronically. I learnt to codify functional requirements and technical specifications for digitization projects, use solution digital asset management systems and implement records management procedures and information governance policies.

I also explored some of the latest technology in healthcare:
• Blockchain technology
• Artificial intelligence
• Predictive healthcare

A critical area of business information is cyber security. I learnt much about this related to digital transformation:
• Trends in cyber security
• Incident management continuum
• Prevention of cyber attacks”

What’s next for Janipher?

I secured another role at a medical facility where I worked for a short time, but I made the decision to go back to school and further my studies.

Being at a medical facility and having worked with an insurance firm and an IT firm; this has given me a rounded understanding of many areas that I will advance with my further education.

Celebrating International Day of the African Child

The International Day of the African Child has been celebrated on June 16 every year since 1991. This year Kids League Kenya and our UK partners have worked to raise the profile of the day

The idea

We have a ‘Twinning program‘ in place. This has provided a global platform for connecting children from Kenya and the United Kingdom. It is an idea that allows children to access others on the other side of the world, expanding their experiences and creating global ambassadors. This is also a platform where they can share.

Our current Twinning Schools

We are currently a group of six schools, including Repton Primary School, St. Edward’s School, Fleckney Primary School from the United Kingdom. These schools meet regularly with our partners Kengeleni Primary School, Kongowea Primary School, and Pentrose Community School from Kenya.

Twinning on International Day of the African Child

Our latest twinning meeting took place on International Day of the African Child.

This year’s theme was ‘Children’s Rights in the Digital Environment’. This theme focusses on safe guarding children accessing the digital environment, it highlights the limitations to access to the internet for children in Africa. This lack of exposure to technology and innovation can be a limiting factor for students.

We focus on the access to technology and a ‘global view’ with our students. Our Internet Corner gives students access to the internet to pursue their interests and learn in a safe environment. Our twinning scheme is enabled by technology and it always great fun for all the participants and it was an excellent day to meet online to enjoy a live interaction! The students had the opportunity to ask general questions from both sides during this session.

A new experience

Kids League Kenya have recently been donated a new location for twinning with enough space to increase the number of students from Kenyan schools. A total of fifteen students joining representing a total of 4,000 students from the three Kenyan schools and 400 students from the UK participated. Four hundred!

Students from the UK dressed up and also had a series of activities to learn more about Kenya as part of their educational experience. Thank you to all the teachers for embracing the theme and making it such a success.

Exciting news

We are thrilled to announce that two schools from both sides will be joining us!

When Ann Dudley (our international Liaison volunteer) visited Kenya, she had the idea of spreading the good news to other neighbouring schools. Together with Julie (our administrator), they approached Khadija Primary School, which is in Kids League Kenya’s target area. Khadija school is eager to join us and we recently received word from one of our volunteers in the United Kingdom that a school in Nottingham is interested in joining too. Welcome!

What’s next

The next activity for the schools to participate in is writing stories and filming videos of traditional stories.

This project will run from now until September during which time all of the videos will be collected when the students will be ready to meet online again.

It is hoped that some videos and written versions of these stories might serve as the beginning of a collection of traditional African stories for publication in Kenya.

Student Spotlight: meet Evon our inspiring engineer

International Women in Engineering Day is celebrated on June 23 every year around the world, to honor women in the field of engineering. It focuses on raising the profile of women who are changing the field of engineering one degree at a time.

At Kids League Kenya we support many different professions and now seems a great time to shine the spotlight on one of our engineers.

We’re partnered with Unity Homes who have kindly made a corporate donation to our cause, they are also going deeper in their commitment to helping others by collaborating on some new and exciting projects. Evon is one of our recent graduates and has recently spent time with them, exploring their working practices and learning that #UnityisCommunity is truly lived in their organisation.

Let us introduce Evon and hear some of her story in her own words. She’s on her way to the career of her dreams and with her upbeat attitude she inspires everyone she meets.

In her own words

“My name is Evon, and I am 24 years old. I am the firstborn in a family of six children. I was raised by my single mum, who does laundry for people for us to earn a living. My father died when I was seven, and life was difficult; I lost hope of achieving my goals.

I would like to thank and appreciate Unity Homes for their partnership with Kids League Kenya in supporting my brother by funding his school fees. He is currently in Form 4.”

“I am truly humbled and grateful to have accomplished my goal of becoming an engineer.

It was not easy for me because I did not know if my dreams would come true today as an orphan with a single mother who our family members abandoned us and did not support educating a girl child, but thanks to Kids League Kenya who have supported and helped me achieve my dreams.”

International Women in Engineering Day 2023

We were delighted when Unity Homes offered to work with us on a campaign to highlight the importance of trail blazing women in engineering by inviting one of our alumni to visit their site, stay at their impressive Tatu City complex in Nairobi and learn about their work.

The theme for #INWED23 is ‘make safety seen’ so as part of meeting all of the inspiring team of Unity Homes, Evon also took part in a number of activities led by women, explaining their day to day roles across a number of different departments at Unity Homes. A fantastic learning experience for Evon and we thank them for their generosity.

Challenges in the field of engineering

“Since I am a woman in this field of engineering, I cannot promise that it will be easy, but it is simply a matter of focusing and being smart because I face challenges working with men.

Others believe that because you are a woman, you are less courageous and weak, and you cannot supervise work to the standard perfection, but I thank God that I have overcome all the challenges.”

Evon had a fantastic recent experience at Unity Homes and has applied for their internship programme. We wish her all the best in her application.

Getting to know Evon

Evon has been extremely helpful to our organisation. From volunteering to clean the shop in her spare time to supporting the Twinning online meetings, Evon always comes to prepare juice and tea for the kids and teachers.

She always makes time to speak with students who are still in secondary school in order to encourage them to put more effort into their studies. On the tuk-tuk tour, she also happened to guide our visitors from the United Kingdom to the Kongowea area. They were all overjoyed, and they did not forget to thank Evon when they returned.

As she goes forward with her career, we asked Evon if she had any words for us to share:

“May the Almighty God bless Kids League Kenya for their kindness and love, and thank you to Madam Julie, who has always been my advisor and role model, and who has always encouraged me that I can do it. Through God’s grace, I have seen the fruits of education.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind my fellow scholars that nothing is impossible with God; it just takes hard work and smart work. My dreams of becoming an engineer and helping other children in need would not have come true if it were not for Kids League Kenya.”

We thank Unity Homes for their time and energy in giving Evon this amazing experience. As our students are from disadvantaged backgrounds, they are motivated, smart and conscientious, but do not have the work environment experience. By getting a chance, they can increase their understanding of employers, build their confidence and their CVs.

Celebrating 25 years of educating students in Kongowea, Mombasa

Every year the Kids League Kenya community comes together to celebrate the achievements of our scholars.
Those who have graduated share their experiences in an effort to inspire those pursuing scholarships to keep working hard, concentrating, and pursuing their goals.

A special year

This year we celebrated Kids League Kenya Day with particular pride as we were commemorating 25 years of educating pupils in the Kongowea region.

The visitors arrived as planned and on time, with our guest of honor, an education officer, in attendance. Rebecca, who has been a supporter of ours for more than 20 years, also attended.

We planned for over 60 guests to join us, and guests were greeted with refreshments in readiness for a fun event.

In addition, there were outstanding student performances and speeches, and a special meal was provided at the end of the event.

Our graduates shared advice

An important element of Kids League Kenya day is always for our new and younger students to see what is possible. We ask our graduates to give their time and give back, offering advice to those coming next.

It was a very proud moment for the organization, realizing how much we have shaped these young people into devout women and men, who are professionals and intellectuals.

We had a series of speakers, from different professions and with varying topics to discuss. Our Master of Ceremonies was Lewa, a Kids League Kenya and University graduate himself.

Career advice

Our engineer Isaac (who was the recent focus of our Student Spotlight series) took time to emphasize to the young pupils the value of choosing a career. He encouraged them to be thinking about their personal qualities and skills, enabling them to find a vocation they will excel at and enjoy. This will help them to be content and not make mistakes in life, helping them to be successful.

Controlling Peer Pressure

Our target area, Kongowea, has several teenagers who occasionally end up hanging out with the wrong crowd and become less useful to society as a result.

When we get together each year, it’s important to encourage the students to stay away from risky behaviour that young people can engage in, including smoking marijuana, breaking into homes or even getting pregnant before they’re ready. Our university student Jennifer was able to interact with the kids giving them fantastic advice.

Hard work and Discipline

Success requires a lot of hard work and discipline. This was clear from the KSCE performance results from the previous year. We saw the greatest number of students move to universities.

Out of 30 pupils, 22 were able to achieve a C+ or higher, which is the average mark needed for admission to a university. Sammy was able to give his advice on what a student should do to achieve the greatest results. You may recognise Sammy – he was in our first Student Spotlight blog star of 2023.

Making this year particularly special

We call this Kids League Kenya day special because for the very first time, students received awards from the office. Julie our administrator took the lead on a lovely awards ceremony.

These awards were presented based on the following criteria: best performance, most disciplined, most voluntarism, punctuality in terms of providing documents to the office on time, among others.

The alumni also surprised two students who did incredibly well on their KCSE exams with gifts; one of them, Etole, managed to improve from a D+ to a B-. The education officer who was our guest of honor added Ksh. 1000 to the alumni contribution.

Celebrating 25 years of serving the Kongowea Community

On the KLK Day, we were also celebrating 25 years of educating students in the Kongowea region as a team.

The trustees were all present to spend time with the children and celebrate this important day with gorgeous photographs, lovely gifts, delectable meals, and many other amazing moments.

One of our trustees, Vicki, who has been there since 1998, shared a wonderful story of the organization’s progress to date.

Student Spotlight: Meet Purity and her passion for nursing

Our Nurses. Our Future. This is the theme for International Nurses Day 2023.

The ICN (International Council of Nurses) is focussed on the wants for nursing in the future. There are global health challenges to address and goals to improve global health for all. There are lessons to be learnt from the pandemic, and the ICN wishes to “translate these into actions for the future to ensure nurses are protected, respected and valued”.

While we are delighted to honour all nurses worldwide, we are especially proud to recognize one of our own who underwent the Kids League Kenya scholarship journey and is now a shining star in the nursing industry.

A message from Purity to Kids League Kenya:

“I truly appreciate Kids League Kenya’s ongoing assistance with my education, both in high school and college. I would not be where I am now if it weren’t for them.”

Purity’s story: studying nursing

Purity joined KMTC (Kenya Medical Training College) Mombasa campus from 2017 to 2021.

She did her nursing licensure exam and got her license to operate as a nurse. In Kenya, nursing course is one of the demanding courses and the fees range up to 80,000 KSH per year.

Purity’s passion for nursing

According to Purity, nursing is a profession that is fuelled by both passion and a love for promoting the welfare of people:

“You can imagine how the world could be without a nurse or someone to look after the sick. I am glad I received a call to action to save my community and the entire world.”

Campaigns for health awareness

“I always put my expertise to use by ensuring that people are living in a healthy environment because I believe that prevention is always better than cure.
In my most recent research, I discovered that people ignore simple practices like hand washing, purifying water, washing fruits and vegetables.
When it comes to maintaining health for a better future, these and other hygiene activities are essential.”

Recruitment and employment

Even with all this passion, there is a significant gap between careers and employment.

After college, finding a job can be difficult. Because of this, Purity did a lot of voluntary work in the community by working with groups to launch health awareness campaigns in the local area.

A message from Purity: “To well-wishers and employers, if you give one of Kids League Kenya’s graduates an opportunity to work for you, you can be confident they will be trustworthy and perform well since Kids League Kenya develops obedient, diligent pupils. Their families, who look up to them, will benefit much from this. Thank you!”

Student Spotlight: Meet Isaac and learn about his inspiring story

Isaac has benefited from the support of Kids League Kenya, and has achieved a great deal. He is leading a very successful life. This is due to his hard work and dedication. As a result of his focus, he has become what we hope for all of our students: a responsible and self-sufficient member of society.

From humble beginnings

Isaac’s parents always made sure that Isaac and his siblings had something to eat, but their situation was certainly was not one where they could cover all of the children’s school fees.

In Kenya secondary school is not free to attend, and is boarding school away from home. Parents from our focus community of Kongowea in Mombasa often have to make the difficult decision to end their children’s education after primary school due to lack of funds. Kids League Kenya also support student who look to progress into tertiary education – looking for support for university and college.

Isaac managed to get in touch with us in 2017. He met the criteria in our selection process and made a good impression in his interviews, so we decided to give him an opportunity. By working with our kind sponsors we were able to pay for his education expenses, enabling him to continue his education.

Potential from the very start

Throughout his time as a member of the Kids League Kenya student population Isaac consistently demonstrated reliability, adhering to the office regulations and was a very consistent student. He also showed great levels of obedience, one of many fantastic traits.

As his relationship with our organisation developed over the years, Isaac would visit the office to help Julie with certain office tasks, and even supported us for our Kids League Kenya inaugural sport tournament.

Excelling in tertiary education

Isaac was able to secure a chance to complete his bachelor’s degree course at the Technical University of Mombasa.

Kids League Kenya support students in their university and college ambitions, using a combination of sponsor funding and grants to cover tuition fees and also support their expenses. Isaac’s school costs were from 47,500 to 50,000 KSH a year for the four-year programme. To learn more about how we structure our support please visit our sponsorship details.

After completing his course, he graduated with a Bachelor of Technology in Marine Engineering.

Since he joining Kids League Kenya, Isaac has held onto this as his ideal profession because he had high hopes that it will someday get him into a career. He made sure that he gave himself the best possible chance by maintaining outstanding grades during his time in school. He was able to graduate with a Second Class (upper division) degree.

A special graduation

Isaac’s graduation took place in August 2022, and was virtual due to COVID-19’s restrictions on gatherings.

Our Kids League Kenya team were able to plan his online graduation utilizing the computers in our internet corner. During the graduation, he was accompanied to the office by his mother and brother, who were both grateful to the trustees and the donors. They were delighted to be there and so proud of what Isaac had achieved. Alongside Julie from our team, two of our trustees, An and Jan, were able to join and celebrate a successful graduation.

Living the dream

Isaac is from Mombasa, and set out to study Marine Engineering at Mombasa University.

The port is a hub of industry in Mombasa and Isaac’s career choice means that he’s well placed to work in his home town.

Isaac is currently employed with Comarco in the Indian Ocean. This role and a successful company is well deserved, as he continues to work hard and develop himself.

His graduation opened a new door, he is now living the life of his dreams, and he is able to provide for his family’s needs as well.

All about Seasons. Our latest Kenya and UK global classroom twinning event discussion

Our sixth twinning meeting generated a lot of fun for the kids since they had a lot to share and to learn on the topic of ‘seasons’.

Often our twinning sessions show what things the cross continent children have in common, but Africa and UK have different experiences in seasons. For many countries in Africa, the seasons do not follow the same pattern they do in UK.

Instead of Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring, most countries in East Africa and Southern Africa have a wet season(s) and a dry season.

Aim of the discussion
The objective of this discussion on Seasons was simply to give the kids a general knowledge about the differences in Seasons in the two different continents, and also to share the activities they like doing in each of the seasons.

Activities in each season

The children in Kenya were overjoyed to talk about the activities they engage in during the wet (rainy) seasons, which include farming, wearing heavy clothing, sharing stories around a fire, water harvesting and irrigation, and playing indoor games, while during the hot (sunny) seasons they engage in harvesting, swimming, playing football, and basketball.

There has been significant drought in Kenya, and the coming rainy season is a cause for excitement and celebration!

In the UK, where all four seasons are experienced and many activities are available, the list was extensive. Activities during winter include playing games, watching films, drinking hot chocolate, Christmas and shopping.

During summer, activities include cool drinks, going in the pool, going on holidays, eating ice-cream and chilling out.

Autumn activities include going for walks, leaf fights, going to the park, having fun in the leaves. During Spring activities include making daisy chains, play with leaves, visiting farms and celebrating Easter.

Question time

After the presentations of activities, there was an opportunity for questions to be asked.

Some of the questions posed by Kenya schools were if UK students engage in farming and in which season, what games they enjoy playing in the winter, and whether they consume different foods in hot and cold weather.

Some of the questions posed by the UK schools included: Does Kenya experience snow; how do Kenyan schools celebrate Christmas; do Kenyan schools celebrate Easter; if so, what activities do they engage in during Easter; and how many different religions are practiced in Kenya; as well as whether or not they observe Ramadan.

Remarks from the Kenyan teachers

All of our Twinning sessions are facilitated by teachers at our partner schools in the UK and Kenya, both the preparation of the students and in the live meetings. Their buy in and enthusiasm are critical to the success of these events.
