One of the best ways you can support the students of Kids League Kenya is to commit to sponsor a child through their education
You can change the life of a child by giving them the gift of education.
Sponsors make a huge difference
Identified at primary level, our sponsors support the funding of their pupil’s education into secondary school, and often continue into their tertiary education (if the student has the aspiration of becoming a nurse or teacher for example).
This commitment means there is no concern each year that we will not be able to provide funds for that child.
Our students without sponsors are supported by a pool of fundraising our supporters generate each year for the coming academic period. Our funds and time go directly to the education of children with potential.
Secondary Education
How much time is the commitment?
After their primary education all students are placed into Secondary Schools by the Government.
Which school they will be allocated to, depends on their KCEP (Kenya Certificate of Primary Education) results.
Most students are given boarding schools around the country and they will only travel home for the holiday breaks.
Secondary education consists of 4 years.
How much is secondary education?
We have 4 years of a child’s secondary school education to fund per student.
Each year costs 55,000KSH.
This equates to £360 or $440 per year
£30 per month or $40 per month– you can pay monthly directly through direct debit to our NCBA bank account, or through our UK and US partner Operation Orphan.
Tertiary Education
University Fees
Annual fees depend on the chosen course and average around 37,000 KSH (or £245 per year or £20 per month.)
We commit to pay for the first year fees, by which time the student should have their HELB loan (High Education Loans Board) approved.
This loan will pay for the fees, after which KLK will assist the students with paying for their accommodation and personal expenses.
University courses normally last 4 years, but advanced or medical courses will take 5 or 6 years to complete.
University Living Expenses
Once our student has their HELB loan (High Education Loans Board) in year 1, they still need support for their living expenses such as accommodation and travel.
We commit £160 per year or £13 per month to cover the cost of their life away from home.
Remember their families are unable to support them financially, and often in the short term it would be preferable to have their child at home earning money to support their family.
This commitment by the student and family is an investment in their future, enabled by you.
College and Diploma Courses
A key focus area for Kids League Kenya is to support entry to those fields that really pay back and make a contribution to the community. An example of this type of vocation is teachers.
These courses do not attract any government assistance and the fees are about 75,000 Khs per year.
To sponsor a teacher training student is £500 or £42 per month.
To sponsor a nursing student is $700 or $60 per month.
