How we select schools
The local schools in Kongowea, Mombasa that we partner with are essential to the success of our student scholarship programme.
What makes a Kids League Kenya school partner?
Firstly, we are engaged with schools that follow the CBC (Competency-Based-Curriculum).
This is important as it means we have fixed milestones that all of our students are measured on, such as atthe year end Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) as well as progressing from Primary School, through to Junior Secondary School (JSS) (which are free to families) onto Secondary School (which is not free, and where Kids League Kenya scholarships intervene).
We work with schools that are responsive to our framework, happy for us to visit and inspect their sites, and are keen to work together with us.
Developing a strong relationship with us is key to our shared success, but also offering the highest levels of Government standards and having good KPSEA scores are essential.
How do we partner?
We take a proactive approach to partnering with schools in our community.
Our administrator Julie works closely with the head teacher and teachers to understand our criteria for students that will be invited to interview, and identifying those with talent, but not the means to take their education forward.
These teachers work in the one of the poorest areas of Mombasa, with large class sizes, limited resources and are real heroes of our programmes of work.
In identifying those students with the potential to change their lives and change their families’ lives, these teachers are an integral part of the changing their own community’s future.
